Crate Training

Crate Training

Benefits

  • Dog is safe
    • When in the crate your dog cannot get into anything he/she should not
  • Your furniture is safe
    • If your dog gets bored, bad things may happen, like the destruction of things in your home.
  • Your dog has a place to call his/her own; a safe place
    • Dogs grow to love the crate and may choose to go in it during thunder storms or just to relax.

Just remember when crating to make the crate safe, meaning no collars on while in the crate, and only durable toys (Kong, pressed bones, antlers, etc.)

When first getting your puppy, do not buy a small crate.  Start off with the size you will need (see here- purchase larger size) and stick to the metal crates.  When the puppies are too small for the crate, a divider can be purchased, or an easier solution is to put a milk crate in the crate. If you are thinking of adding a crate to your car, a fabric crate will work well (see here).
